Our public meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the last Thursday of every month in the Trinity Church Hall, Pier Avenue. Talks usually last for about an hour, then we have a short break for refreshments followed by announcements regarding upcoming events, e.g., local exhibitions, and Society business.

Members are admitted free of charge to all meetings; visitors for £2. Membership runs from January to December and costs £12.50 for the year. Renewals and new membership will be taken at our first meeting, see below.

25 July: Members’ Evening; three 20 minute talks by members.

 

29 August: From demolition to discovery; the lost mansion of Marks Hall by John Mallinson.

 

26 September: Plants that changed the world by Frances Boardman.

 

31 October: R.N.L.I. life at Clacton lifeboat by Dennis Hoad.

 

28 November: Shopping in Clacton through the ages by George Hardwick.

 

26 December: No meeting.

 

All meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall, Trinity Methodist Church, Pier Avenue. There is a small car park next to the Hall. On-road parking in Pier Avenue and Rosemary Road is also available as well as the Council Car Park a short distance away.

No charge for members. £2 for non-members.

The Clacton & District Local History Society was formed in 1985 to research, record and promote the history of Clacton & District. We meet on the last Thursday of each month, 7:30 at The Trinity Methodist Church Hall on the corner of Pier Avenue & Rosemary Road West, Clacton with a guest speaker. Membership is £12.50 per year. This gives free entry to all meetings. Non-members are welcome to meetings for £2.00.  We also have an excellent museum on the second floor of Clacton Library in Station Road, open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Saturday...well worth a visit.
